Cozy Winter Teas

When the weather outside is frightful, I drink tea.  Drinking tea is more than just consuming a liquid beverage. It’s evocative of warmth, comfort and a sense of well-being. And that doesn’t even account for the different flavors, herbs, and vitamins that add their own layer of enjoyment and health benefits.

I’ve put together a list of a few of my winter time tea favorites. To make the list, each tea had to be affordable, available at my local grocery store, and one that I reach for on a regular basis because it’s just so good. I tend to do caffeinated teas in the morning and herbal or rooibos in the afternoon so I’ve got a variety of herbal, green, black, and rooibos tea to cover the caffeine vs no caffeine tea drinker.

Where to Find Cozy Winter Teas

I am going to be Captain Obvious here for a minute and tell you that you can get most of these teas for a reasonable price at a grocery store. That’s one of the reasons these are my go-to favorites of the moment–they are affordable and readily available.

But, I also want to provide an easy link to purchase these teas in case you aren’t able to find them locally. The links below are for larger quantities (usually between 2-6 boxes) because the cost difference just makes more sense. If you aren’t a fan of buying 6 boxes of a tea you haven’t tried yet, I get it–shop around for a box locally or plan to give them as a winter cheer gift to your friends.

Vanilla Bean Macaron Black Tea

Tazo 6 pack

Yum. This Tazo dessert tea blends black tea with vanilla, cardamom and licorice root. My favorite way to enjoy is with honey and a splash of milk.

 Glazed Lemon Loaf Herbal Tea

Tazo 6 pack

Another tasty Tazo dessert tea. I’m not sure how they do it, but this green rooibos based tea tastes like a glazed lemon loaf. There’s a hint of spicy ginger in the background too. A little stevia sweetens this one up just a bit, but it’s pretty good on its own too.

Tazo Vanilla Macaroon Black Tea & Glazed Lemon Loaf Herbal Tea Bundle

Tazo 2 pack

My two favorite Tazo teas of the moment in a bundle together! I couldn’t resist including this link in case you want to try them both out together.

Celestial Seasonings Bengal Spice Herbal Tea

Bengal Spice 6 pack

Bengal Spice 2 pack

This has been a favorite of mine for years. Spicy, rich tasting, and reminiscent of a chai but with no caffeine, it makes a special nighttime treat with milk and honey. Spicy cinnamon, ginger, cloves, cardamom, black pepper and vanilla mix with rich chicory and carob.

Citrus Sunrise Herbal Tea (aka Vitamin C Shine)

Celestial Seasonings 6 pack

I preferred the former name, Citrus Sunrise. But either way this bright citrus herbal tea is one of the few that I enjoy with no added sweeteners. It has orange peel, rose hips, hawthorn, hibiscus, blackberry leaves, and 200% Daily Value of Vitamin C.

Spice Dragon Red Chai Herbal Tea

Stash 6 pack

Another of my longstanding favorites, this rooibos based tea is also caffeine free and has the spicy chai flavors of cinnamon, ginger & clove. But there is also a lightness and almost a brightness not found in other chai teas. When I want the flavor without the heaviness, I reach for Spice Dragon Red Chai.

Moroccan Mint Green Tea

Stash Pack of 2

Sometimes I just want something different, and this minty green tea is just the thing. I’m not really a fan of mint teas that feel like you are drinking an altoid. Moroccan Mint Tea is light and not overpowering which I appreciate.

The Magic of a Cup of Tea

Most of the teas on my list have a spicy or sweet flavor profile to them because I’m always in the mood for something warming and decadent in winter. I have no problem adding things like honey, stevia, agave syrup, vanilla syrup, milk, or creamer especially with the spicy or “dessert” teas to make them feel like a treat. Teas with citrus or mint flavors can benefit from a bit of stevia or agave or enjoyed plain.

I am a big fan of enjoying a cup of tea as a form of self-care. Pulling out my tea cups and teapot and having a tea party with myself is something I do regularly. I also love making my own herbal tea blends from herbs I have grown in my garden. Check out my recipe for Lemongrass tea.

I want to hear how you enjoy tea. What’s your favorite tea? Are you into cream and sugar or do you prefer it just plain?
